Seagate said in April 2011 that it was acquiring the HDD business of Samsung Electronics for US$1.4 billion in stock and cash and completed Acquisition of Samsung's HDD Business in December 2011.

Seagate said it is retaining certain Samsung HDD products under the Samsung brand name for 12 months so after this year Samsung HDD will be gone and Seagate HDD storage technologies will be used or Samsung hdd storage technologies will be used under name of Seagate.
