Incompatibility between ATA and ROM causing WD Undetection is one very common problem with WD hdd.

Sometimes, it's due to the damage in the original ATA or ROM;
Sometimes, it's due to a wrong write of incompatible ATA or ROM or the PCB has been replaced.

With DFL-WDII, you may consider regenerating the original ROM or ATA after detailed diagnosis of the patient drives.
